A Peek Inside the Book
The eager bunch had their eyes glued on Grandpa as he sat down in his favorite old rocking chair to begin his story. Memories of the Freedom Train brought a smile to Grandpa’s face as he reflected back on his childhood adventure.
The children leaned in as Justin asked,
Do you remember what the train looked like, Grandpa Charles?
I will never forget, Grandpa replied.
It was bright white with red and blue stripes going down the sides of the train, to represent the colors of our American flag.
Those are the colors on my bike too, Jaden said.
I guess I’ve got a Freedom Train bike.
Grandpa smiled and continued,
We could see the train gleaming as we got up closer, while waiting in line to get on board. It had seven cars. Three cars where the staff slept, plus a baggage car and three exhibit cars.
What was in the exhibit cars? asked Sonia.
That’s where the prized treasures were kept on the train, Grandpa replied.
So what were they, Grandpa? asked Libby.
Then they hopped on their bikes to go invite the neighborhood kids to come over to take a tour of their Freedom Train that weekend. Pedaling as fast as they could, their mission was now underway. They were eager to finish building the train replica in time for their friends to come see it in a few days.
